How a Houston Craniosynostosis Attorney Can Help With a Brain Injury Case

Craniosynostosis claims are highly complex. Establishing whether negligence contributed to the condition often requires detailed investigation, consultation with medical experts, and an aggressive litigation strategy.

An attorney can help you:

  • Review your child’s prenatal and delivery records to determine whether medical providers failed to recognize or treat risk factors.
  • Work with leading medical experts to identify how and when mistakes occurred.
  • Establish whether there were failures to diagnose craniosynostosis early, improper monitoring, or errors during delivery.
  • Assess the long-term financial impact of your child’s condition, including surgeries, therapies, and adaptive care needs.
  • Negotiate with hospitals and insurers or take your case to trial if necessary.

Reach out to Hampton & King today to learn how an experienced Houston birth injury lawyer can help you with your claim.

What is Craniosynostosis?

Craniosynostosis is a condition in which the bones of a baby’s skull fuse too early, before the brain has fully developed. This premature fusion can result in an abnormal head shape, increased intracranial pressure, and developmental complications.

There are several types of craniosynostosis, including:

  • Sagittal Synostosis, which features fusion along the top of the head, leading to a long, narrow skull.
  • Coronal Synostosis, where fusion occurs on one or both sides of the head. Coronal synostosis can cause asymmetry or flattening.
  • Metopic Synostosis refers to fusion at the forehead and results in a triangular-shaped head.
  • Lambdoid Synostosis is a rare type of craniosynostosis affecting the back of the skull.

Some craniosynostosis cases are genetic. However, craniosynostosis can sometimes be linked to failure to diagnose, inadequate management of risk factors during pregnancy/birth, or medical negligence that delays necessary treatment.

What Types of Compensation Are Available in Craniosynostosis Birth Injury Cases?

A successful medical malpractice claim can provide vital financial support for your child’s medical care and future care needs.

A compensation award may include money for:

  • Costs of corrective surgeries and ongoing medical treatment
  • Physical and occupational therapy
  • Special equipment and home modifications
  • Loss of future earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering (subject to Texas’s non-economic damages cap)
  • Emotional distress for both the child and the family

While Texas caps non-economic damages in medical malpractice claims, there is no cap on economic damages. That means your family can pursue full reimbursement for the significant costs associated with your child’s treatment and long-term care.
