Houston C-Section Injury Lawyer

We hold doctors responsible for cesarean section errors!

For some births, the doctor may perform what is known as a cesarean delivery (C-section). This is especially true in cases where there would be high risk factors for a vaginal birth. To perform a C-section, the doctor will make an incision in the abdomen and uterus of the mother and remove the baby. C-sections are one of the most frequently performed surgeries in the U.S.; however, this procedure is not without risk. This can be a major surgical process—and patients and doctors alike should seriously consider whether or not it is needed.

Complications & Errors with C-Sections

During and before labor, both doctors and nurses are responsible for monitoring the mother to see if it will be necessary to perform a C-section; they should also monitor for fetal distress. If there are any risk factors identified, it’s likely that a C-section must be performed to protect both mother and child.

Some of the most common complications and errors include the following:

  • Failing to perform a C-section when vaginal delivery posed risk of harm to the baby
  • Causing physical injury to the fetus during the operation
  • Cutting any of the nearby organs during the operation
  • Delayed C-section causing oxygen deprivation to the fetus

While a C-section can save lives, it must be done both quickly and correctly to be successful and effective. If the C-section is delayed or if an error is made during the medical process, the lifesaving procedure could be life-threatening.

Cesarean Section Infection Risk

Cesarean sections pose a risk of infection to the mother. After surgery, mothers should watch out for signs like swelling, discharge, and high fever. The infection could be internal or external. If external, mothers may just experience symptoms like pus and swelling. If internal, mothers may experience fever and flu-like symptoms. If the internal infection spreads to the bloodstream, mothers can develop Septicemia. If Septicemia is not properly treated, mothers can experience septic shock. This condition requires immediate medical attention to avoid serious injury.
